Santee Lakes

Noted for its superb hunting and fishing opportunities, the Santee Lakes of South Carolina is a favorite among outdoor enthusiasts. Known as the land adjacent to Lake Marion and Lake Moultrie, the Santee Lakes region touches northwest Berkeley County, southwest Williamsburg County, and most of Clarendon County, and is treasured by hunters, anglers, kayakers, bird watchers, equestrians, and other nature lovers.

Originally man-made for hydroelectric purposes, the Santee Lakes system totals over 170,000 acres. This area has become a world-class fishing destination and is home to numerous tournaments throughout the year. Among the towns along the lakes are Bonneau, St. Stephen, Russellville, Eadytown, and Pineville. The Palmetto Trail, Black's Fish Camp, and Rediversion Canal are a few points of interest that meander and dot along the lakes. At the north end of Lake Marion sits the exquisite Sparkleberry Swamp. With nearly 17,000 acres, it is one of the last, intact, bottomland hardwood swamps in South Carolina.

Hunters enjoy the Santee Lakes area for all the deer, turkey, duck, dove, and bobwhite quail. The towns of Trio, Lane, Greeleyville, Manning, Summerton, Kingstree, and Rimini all offer excellent hunting. The Santee National Wildlife Refuge is located on the north end of Lake Marion and supports many types of wildlife. A popular wintering area for ducks, geese, and swans, the refuge permits the hunting of deer, big game, small game, and migratory birds during designated seasons.

Parcels range from 50 to 2,500 acres and may include open fields, hills, forests, farms, swamps, creeks, streams, duck ponds, and more. With year-round fishing opportunities and a plethora of exceptional hunting spots, Santee Lakes is the ideal rural location for a sportsman's country estate or secluded second home.
